Notes

Earlier versions of sections of this monograph have appeared as journal articles and a book chapter. The monograph revises, expands and integrates these earlier works within a single integrated project and adds entirely new chapters, the latter making up the bulk of the book. Entirely new chapters are 1, 2, 5, and 6. A revised version of chapter 4 ``Gone With the Wind plus fangs¿: genre, taste and distinction in the assembly, marketing and reception of Bram Stoker¿s Dracula¿ has been reprinted in the following collections: Paul Grainge, Mark Jancovich and Sharon Monteith (eds.) Film Histories: An Introduction and Reader Edinburgh University Press, 2007, pp. 514-28; Steve Neale (ed.) Genre and Contemporary Hollywood BFI, 2002, pp.289-303.
