Notes
Originality: Describes an interdisciplinary study using a highly novel (for the time) 3D VR role playing environment developed by the authors, and designed to foster childrens creative writing skills, particularly characterisation. One of the first attempts to modify a commercial games engine for educational purposes Rigour: Combines an empirical study of 60 children using the role play environment, with a quantitative analysis of their stories using an empirically developed analysis scheme. Significance: Both the environment itself, and the analysis scheme, were novel at the time. Impact: Similar work has now been carried out by other research groups, e.g. Michael Mayo, University of Waikato, who is seeking to replicate the results with another system (research.it.uts.edu.au/creative/ie/04/proceedings/037 mayo).pdf) Outlet: Journal has a 10-15% acceptance rate.Full text available
