Notes
The paper summarizes highlights of work from our Framework V project to improve the performance of red photocathodes, specifically to address long wavelength biomedical applications and cancer detection. The work demonstrated improvements over existing commercial photomultipliers by factors of up to ~40 times. It has stimulated changes in commercial cathode production and design of retrofit devices to improve performance. The development generated progress in solgel technology and laser surface structuring. In parallel with experimental papers are detailed theoretical analyses and predictions via detailed measurements of dielectric constants for these cathodes. Commercial references are listed co-authors Cormack and McAlpine.Full text available
