Abstract considerations: disciplines and the incoherence of Newton's natural philosophy
journal contribution
posted on 2023-06-08, 08:43 authored by Robert IliffeIn this article I argue that Newton did compartmentalise his work in different ways, according to the generic demands placed on him by the disciplines of mixed mathematics and natural philosophy. Although his writings should not be assumed to be completely separate, the implications of the argument are that one should not assume a priori, whatever their reaosn for so doing, that all his writings share some sort of identical quality.
